Library stairs
Last night after a quick dinner we drove to the Centrepointe library. We both love this semi-regular outing but for different reasons. I like to find fun books to add to the bedtime routine, while you tend to see it as an ideal location for a stair workout. True to form, your first request after arrival was for stairs to climb! Your arms loaded with little stuffies - and your green mermaid boots set adorably on the wrong feet - you carefully walked down the stairs to the children’s area and proclaimed you’d like to colour. As we sat down at the large wooden table, the librarian set us up with two candy tins overflowing with crayons and coloured pencils and a stack of paper sheets. You picked out all the purple crayons at first, but then your attention was drawn to the crayons that were thicker than the rest, which you placed end to end, forming a kind of train. You have an interest in categorizing. I drew an A on a sheet in front of you and asked if you knew the letter. You did! Same with the letter O. Amazing! Next I drew a B and you said, “7! No, 8!” So cute. I could feel your energy for the place was about to plummet, so we cleared the table and I selected a few books to check out. As we were about to head up the stairs you remembered (incorrectly) a second set of stairs, and asked (demanded?) to climb those instead. The librarian watched us argue, then presented you with a shiny zebra sticker that changed your mind. We found the second set of stairs a bit later, near the trees and pools of water shimmering with coins, and you finally got your stair climbing fix. It was dark when we finally left for home.
